Books offer American Baptists opportunity for unity

ABC Reads Logo
ABC Reads brings American Baptists together through the power of a book. Sponsored by Judson Press, ABC Reads highlights a book annually that's appropriate for reading and discussion in small group settings, as well as individually. The book provides an opportunity for learning, sharing and growing in knowledge and faith in Sunday school classes and Bible studies, as well as men's, women's and youth groups.

ABC Reads Hope for Children in Poverty

Jesus experienced childhood from the perspective of a low-income family. But hope began with that "poor homeless baby born to an unmarried teenage mother." Throughout his ministry, Jesus chose to "associate with the lowly." He understood the struggles and gifts of those without worldly power or prestige. Jesus lifted up the humblest children, those most in need of God's blessing, as a model for those seeking to enter the kingdom of God. Beckoning a child to stand among them, Jesus said to his disciples, "Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me."

The year-long ABC READS emphasis will lift up the new Judson Press book, Hope for Children in Poverty: Profiles and Possibilities, edited by Ron Sider and Heidi Unruh.

Children's voices speak throughout this book, as well as those of academics, activists, pastors and social service professionals who offer up solutions through public policy and faith-based organizations.

We hope you will join us to in reading and studying this one book, so that American Baptists across the country will be discussing this topic in many places and acting on this issue as they are led. A free online study guide for groups is also available.

Ten percent of the proceeds from the $16 sale price of this book benefit the Children in Poverty Initiative of National Ministries.
