2011 Biennial Awards Nomination Information

The nomination process for 2011 awards is open. The Board of National Ministries, carrying out ministry as American Baptist Home Mission Societies, is seeking nominations for nine national recongnition awards (plus the Luke Mowbray Ecumenical Award presented by ABCUSA) to be announced at the 2011 Biennial Meeting in San Juan, Puerto Rico, June 24-26, 2011. The awards are intended to honor American Baptist individuals, congregations or organizations for exceptional faithfulness in ministry. October 15, 2010, is the deadline for submitting nominations.

The Biennial Awards will be announced by American Baptist Home Mission Societies* at the 2011 American Baptist Biennial Meeting to give national recognition for excellence in the defined areas of ministry. *Except Mowbray which is awarded by ABCUSA.

The following two awards are presented to an individual or church; an organization other than a church may be also nominated for the Religious Freedom Award:

Award Recipient Selection Process

In November 2010, the Awards/Recognition Working Group of the Board of National Ministries, carrying out ministry as American Baptist Home Mission Societies, will review the nominations and select recipients to recommend to the full Board. Following the vote of the Board, recipients will be notified. Nominators also will be notified of the recipients chosen for the awards for which they made nominations. Those not selected will receive a certificate of recognition.

A PDF file of the 2011 Biennial Award Nomination Form is available for those who prefer to complete a paper version of the form and mail it with the additional required documentation below. This nomination form may be used for any of the awards.

In addition to the form, the following are required:
  • A statement of no more than 1,000 words explaining how the ministry of the person, church or organization you are nominating meets the specific criteria for the award.
  • Three items of supporting material. Examples of supporting material are:
    • A letter or statement from another person, affirming the nomination
    • An article about the nominee's ministry
    • A sample of the nominee's writing
IMPORTANT: Please send only three items of supporting material. In making its decision, the Working Group will be able to consider only three items.
