Today American Baptists who have responded to the call to chaplaincy and pastoral counseling serve in ministries that include organ transplant ministry, AIDS ministry, care of sexually abused persons, prison ministry, and in the cause of world peace.

Adequate academic and clinical preparation
A pastoral identity well-tempered in local church ministry experience
