Go—Tell it on the Mountain...and Everywhere!
Sponsored by National Ministries, the National Gathering of American Baptist Youth—"MtW: More Than a Week"— magnified and praised God by transforming both youth and adults with worship, Bible study and speakers who challenged the close to 1400 in attendance to make a difference in the world as the hands and feet of Christ.
Even at the gathering in Colorado's magnificent Rocky Mountains, the ninth since the event's inauguration in 1972, those who attended already were making a difference. Here's how:
• Close to 900 youth swayed and danced to the music of worship singing, "You are my hiding place; whenever I am afraid, I will trust in you."
• Close to 400 adults followed tracks specially developed for them in Spiritual Renewal, Leadership Development and Bible Study.
• Close to 150 youth felt the impact of God moving in their lives when they came forward on commitment nights—
- 89 answering ministry calls,
- 31 making first-time decisions, and
- 27 rededicating their lives to Christ.
• 187 backpacks filled with school supplies donated by youth groups were collected to make an impact that will last more than a week on La Puenta, a ministry providing food, clothing, shelter and more to marginalized families and individuals in Colorado's San Luis Valley.
• More than $5,500 collected in offering contributions will support the American Baptist Women's Ministries' "Break the Chains: Slavery in the 21st Century" mission project—so the youth gathering's impact will last more than a week by reaching out to victims of human trafficking.
