| Our Story |
Mission with the Hispanic community has been an integral part of the ministry of The
American Baptist Home Mission Societies (now known as National Ministries) since the first
missionary work in Puerto Rico in 1899 and the planting of the first mission church in Santa Barbara, California, in 1901.
Today Hispanic American Baptist churches are engaged in holistic ministry, doing their part
to win the lost to Jesus Christ. Many Hispanics call the United States their home but speak mostly Spanish. This reality
necessitates ministries that respond to bilingual, bicultural needs.
As churches play a key role in ministry, they must deal with the social and economic
realities faced by Hispanics in this country. Unemployment and underemployment, a bleak
educational status, youth violence and gangs, children in poverty, and single-parent households
are represented by those who worship with American Baptist congregations.
You are invited to become a partner with American Baptist Hispanic churches.
