Hurricane Katrina Response

A Christian Prayer for Survivors of Hurricane Katrina

Lord, thank you that I have access to you through your Son Jesus. It is through the name of Jesus that I intercede for those whose lives have been devastated by Hurricane Katrina. I pray for adequate provision of food, water, clothing, shelter and medical supplies.

Lord,I pray for those who distribute the provisions that there shall be no favoritism or misappropriation of provisions. Grant the helpers a compassionate and understanding heart.

I also pray, in Jesus’ name, for a quick reunion of those who have been separated from loved ones. I ask that you intervene as only you can. For those who have yet to be rescued, I pray for their strength and steadfastness. Somehow, give them a glimmer of hope through a song and self-encouragement.

Holy Spirit, it is my prayer that you would comfort those whose loved ones died during Hurricane Katrina. Allow them to lean on others around them during their bereavement to find comfort.

I lift government leaders and our nation to you. All of us have been affected by this catastrophic event. Let us be the compassionate people you created us to be and give financially so others may survive. Thank you, Lord, for every survivor and for every Good Samaritan who has already given a helping hand. But mostly, thank you that in the middle of this devastation I can call on a God who still answers prayer.

Therefore, I call on Jesus, for it is in that name alone that power exists! I call on Jesus, because it is in that name alone that deliverance comes. I call on Jesus, because he alone can do what no other power can do! Now thank you, Lord, for hearing and answering my prayer in the salvific name of Jesus. Amen.
