Financial and Material Assistance
- Financial contributions to One Great Hour of Sharing are crucial. Churches may send their gifts through the regular means and designate them for Hurricane Katrina Relief. For immediate contributions, encourage individuals to use the "Give Now" link at www.abc-usa.org.
- Establish scholarship funds for Katrina survivors for the present and the future.
- Consider being a resource for food or supplies distribution. Contact local relief agencies to determine best ways of effectively contributing food and supplies.
- Encourage the use of church vans and buses to transport survivors and evacuees to social service locations, churches, places of entertainment and so on, in cooperation with community organizations.
- Participate with American Baptist Women's Ministries' White Cross program in preparing and distributing Gift of the Heart kits in cooperation with Church World Service. The contents of the baby, school, health and children's kits can be found at www.churchworldservice.org/kits. For more information, contact the National Ministries National Coordinator of Volunteer Services, Victoria.Goff@abc-usa.org, or visit the American Baptist Women's resources Web page.
- Purchase prepaid phones or phone cards for evacuees. Provide them to local agencies or groups resettling evacuees in your area.
