VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS)—The Rev. Dr. Angel Luis Gutierrez died at his home in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, on Jan. 19, surrounded by his family.

“We give thanks to God for the life and ministry of this faithful servant,” said Dr. Osvaldo L. Mottesi, president of Renewal Ministries, based in Apex, N.C.

Gutierrez served more than 55 years in ministry, including seven pastorates in Puerto Rico. He was regional executive minister for American Baptist Churches in Puerto Rico and a member of both the denomination’s General Board and Commission on Life and Theology. In addition, he was executive secretary for the Council of Churches of Puerto Rico, based in Rio Piedras.

Drawing on his years of pastoral experience, Gutierrez taught at Palmer Seminary (formerly Eastern) in Wynnewood, Pa., and at the Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico in San Juan. Among his published works is the book Voces Del Pulpito Hispano (Voices from the Hispanic Pulpit), which Judson Press published in 1989.

A memorial service was held Sun., Jan. 22, at the First Baptist Church of Caguas, Puerto Rico. Gutierrez is survived by his wife, Miriam, and by a son and daughter. Condolences may be sent to Condominio Arboleda 1402, Guaynabo, PR 00966.
